Part-time front of House &
Farm Shop Assistant

We are looking for someone to join our Front of House Team & Farm Shop Team, and ideally this will be one person who is keen for some variety and able to work a dual role. Are you a great Team player, do you love working with people and have a passion for delivering excellent customer service? Then this role could be perfect for you! We are looking for someone to work Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and ideally someone with some experience in retail or hospitality.

Customer Service Responsibilities Café

Customer service:

  • To welcome customers into the café and ensure they can find a table and have the correct menus available for service.
  • Ensure the customer is checked in on the booking system if they have booked a table.
  • To take customers orders at the table and ensure that the correct communication about each order is delivered to each relevant department, so drinks/food can be produced as required.
  • To check if the customer has an allergies or intolerances that we need to be aware of.
  • To make customer drinks and deliver them to their table.
  • To deliver food from the kitchen to the customer’s table when the Kitchen Team request it is taken.
  • To ensure the customer is happy with their food and to check in if they would like anything else during service.
  • To ensure communication between customers and Kitchen Team is correct and keep Kitchen Team informed about any specific customer requirements.
  • To report any complaints on the food/service to the Head Chef and the Café Manager during that shift.
  • To ensure that the customer has the right cutlery on the table
  • To be friendly and helpful towards our customers, keeping in mind that you play a key role in the customers impression of the business.


  • To clear tables and wipe down.
  • To ensure work stations are kept to a good level of hygiene throughout the shift.
  • To take glasses to the prep room and wash as required.
  • To help the Kitchen Porter take crockery, cutlery back to designated areas.
  • To sweep floors at the end of every shift in café.
  • To always follow best practice hygiene rules whilst at work, ensuring hair is tied back and nails are short and clean.
  • To clean toilets at the end of each shift.

Waste management:

  • To unload trays as they come into the kitchen and to ensure that waste is disposed of as per procedure.
  • To minimise food waste throughout the shift, always recording any waste in the waste book.

Customer Service Responsibilities Farm Shop

  • To welcome customers into the Farm Shop and assist in finding products when requested.
  • To manage the till and check out customers shopping, taking payment.
  • To answer the phone and assist customers with any questions that they have.
  • To answer emails regarding customer orders for click and collect or deliveries when applicable.
  • To serve customers over the deli & cheese counters as required during your shift.
  • To ensure the deli is always stocked and enough stock is being prepared for the next day ahead, to ensure we can always maximise sales.
  • To serve and prepare takeaway drinks, cakes and hot counter treats.
  • To be friendly and helpful towards our customers, keeping in mind that you play a key role in the customers impression of the business.
  • To raise any customer complaints with either the Farm Shop manager or the Farm Shop Supervisor as soon as possible to ensure we can manage the complaint effectively.

Stock control:

  • To receive any stock as it comes in and check all is correct according to delivery note and conforms to quality and intake checks. To put away stock as required.
  • To restock shelves as required.
  • To ensure all date codes of shop stock is within date and complies with food safety legislation.
  • To keep an eye on stock levels and flag up any low stocks to Product buyers.
  • To order any new stock as requested by Product buyers.
  • To enter any new products into the stock management system, ensuring all details are entered correctly.
  • To assist with stock counts when required.


  • To assist with cashing up at the end of each shift, ensuring the tills balance at the end of each shift and raising and recording any non-conformances.
  • To complete finance paperwork as required to ensure we are accounting for all stock transfers and waste.

Hygiene & Food Safety:

  • To ensure work stations are kept to a good level of hygiene throughout the shift, cleaning as we go.
  • To complete end of day checks and relevant paperwork to ensure we are complying with procedures in place and a good level of hygiene.
  • To follow best practice when handling any food products, especially allergens and ready to eat products.

  • You will have a passion to work with customers and deliver excellent service to everyone who visits Hilltop Farm
  • You will be highly-motivated, enthusiastic and energetic
  • Can work well within a Team
  • Have experience in either retail or hospitality
  • Have a passion for food and al things local
